Creepy Critters
Saturday, October 7 – 9am-2pm
Naturalist Cabin at Russell Crossroads

All of nature is equally amazing and valuable, but the truth is: some critters give us the creeps. This month, visit the Naturalist to see some specimens that are apt to cause a chill. Some will have eight legs and some will have none, but all will be on display for learning and discovery. This display will showcase spiders and insects that may look unappealing but play essential roles in Russell Forest. No need to be squeamish or fearful! We will discuss the positive attributes of our wild neighbors who lurk in the shadows. Live animals—bring your camera. No charge—everyone is welcome!

Guided Nature Tour

Halloween Night Hike!
Tuesday, October 31 – 5:30pm
Meet at Wilson Road Trailhead

If you’re looking for a spooky-yet-wholesome activity for the kids on Halloween night, bring them to the NIGHT HIKE in Russell Forest! The sun sets early these days, so kids will still have plenty of time for rest on a school night. Naturalist Marianne will begin a discussion about creepy critters of Russell Forest at 5:30pm at Wilson Road Trailhead. A hike will begin as darkness settles in, and flashlights will guide us through the woods as we share spooky tales about (harmless!) things lurking in the woods. This experience is appropriate for ages 5+. Costumes are welcome! Insect repellent will be provided.

Advance registration required! Please contact Naturalist Marianne to register in advance at 256.496.2710.
