When you think Russell Forest Run, what’s the first thing that pops into your head? For those who have joined us over the course of the past 14 years for the run, we bet it’s making it up Heaven Hill, running through the tunnel under State Highway 63, seeing volunteers Barbara Sokol and Beverly Johnson at the 5K turnaround, or even the machine gun blast to start the run! But for others, it’s grits! Yep, grits!

Typically made from stone-ground corn and slow cooked to perfection, Southern grits are some of the creamiest and dreamiest on the planet, and we serve up a ton of them. We see runners covering them in butter, cheese, bacon or all of the above. Just ask those who have joined us. There is nothing like a bowl full of hot grits to recharge the body after the 10K and 5K runs.

Whether it’s Heaven Hill or the Grits Bar at the after party with live music at The Stables, the Russell Forest Run is a great event and raises money for the local school system.
