The course is being refreshed—yes, the view from Heaven is breathtaking, but sorry, the hills aren’t going away—the 2022 t-shirts have been ordered, bibs are being printed and timing chips attached, the menu for the Grits Bar is being prepared (but it IS a GRITS bar), volunteers are being recruited, the band is rehearsing, and registrations are steadily coming in for the 13th annual Russell Forest Run!
Several years ago, to help raise funds for the Alexander City Schools Education Foundation (ACSEF), an idea to hold a run through the Russell Forest was mentioned! The run quickly became more than a mention, and since then, through the support of local sponsors and the hundreds of runners annually, this event has given almost $100,000 to the ACSEF.
As in past years, the Russell Forest Run 10K and 5K will be held at Russell Crossroads. The starting line will be in its normal spot near the Town Green and the finish line near The Stables. The 10K will begin at 7:45am with the 5K start to follow shortly after at 7:55am. Yes, you did read correctly—the Grits Bar is back this year, and we look forward to holding a live awards ceremony as soon as the races are complete.
Gather your friends and come run with us, or as a number of folks do, take a brisk walk through the woods. And because changes sometimes happen, please keep an eye on Facebook and the Russell Forest Run website for any urgent updates or changes!
